Frequently asked questions

How we work, what an engagement looks like, and the things clients ask before the first call. Questions about a specific service are answered on that service's own page.

Company

What kind of company is D&S, Inc.?

A technology company registered in Tokyo (Itabashi ward), founded in 2019. We build and operate software, run IT systems for clients, and support digital transformation in the hospitality and tourism industries. Our development hub, N.D.S. Venture, is in Kathmandu.

Location

Where is D&S, Inc. based?

Our head office is in Itabashi, Tokyo, and our engineering team, N.D.S. Venture, is in Balkhu, Kathmandu. The company was founded in Tokyo in November 2019, and contracts are with the Japanese entity.

Contracts

Do we contract with a Japanese company or with the Nepal office?

D&S, Inc., headquartered in Tokyo, is the contracting entity and the central business and product organization for our international operations. N.D.S. Venture is our Nepal-based development hub rather than a third-party vendor, providing dedicated engineering and technology capability, so one Japanese legal entity stays accountable for the work.

Language

What language do you work in?

Japanese or English. Requirements and specifications are coordinated by our Tokyo office, so you never translate documents for the engineering team yourself.

Pricing

How do you price a project?

It starts with a scoping conversation about what you are trying to achieve and what already exists. From there we propose either a phased plan with an estimate per phase, or a monthly dedicated team where requirements are still moving. We would rather give you figures you can check against real scope than one lump sum you have to take on trust.

Takeovers

Can you take over something another vendor built?

Yes. Both our development and our operations work regularly begin with a system built in-house or by someone else. We start with a review of the current code, infrastructure and operational load.

Ownership

Who owns the code and the intellectual property?

You do. Deliverables, source code and related intellectual property transfer to you under the engagement contract.

After launch

Do you stay involved after launch?

Yes, and we prefer to. We operate and maintain what we build, so monitoring, updates and improvement continue with the same team rather than being handed to a separate vendor at go-live.

Careers

Are you hiring?

We hire in both Tokyo and Kathmandu. For more on what is open at the moment, how the team works, and how to apply, visit our careers page. We keep speculative applications too, so if this is the work you want to be doing, write to [email protected].

Contact

How do we get in touch?

Through the contact form on this site, or by email at [email protected] if you would rather write to us directly. Tell us roughly what you are trying to do and the right person on our team will follow up within one business day.
